Parking break not working?

The other day I was working on my truck and was about to jack up the front end. I set the parking break and when i started jacking my truck up the truck started rolling! I was like what the hell. I then proceeded to put my truck in neutral, put the parking break on and then pushed my truck, it moved..... Obviously something is wrong with my parking break, any suggestions?

Parking brakes are also adjustable...its basically a drum brake. May just need that. I'd have to go look at it to remember how to get to it. Mine does a great job a preventing backwards movement but diddly-squat at forward...but I don't care right now

That's pretty much what happened, I have a Haynes repair manual so it pretty much showed me how to adjust it and tighten it. The cable was hanging really loose

I have a 2000 f150. My parking brake pedal only moves about 1 inch when pushed. It doesnt hold at all. I checked the cable (on the drivers side) and when I press the pedal it does take out the slack and it loosens slightly when I release. Im guessing the problem lies in the drum somewhere. Any thoughts?

1 inch of movement sounds like my 2001 was.

My EM cable was rusted inside of the sheathing. It was obvious when looking at parking brake cable at the frame hangers. The cable was swollen(internal rust) at the hanger locations.

The actuation lever inside the Em brake drum(4 wheel disc) was rusted so bad it would not budge also. Had to soak that lever in PB then smack it with a hammer to seperate the 2 piece lever. (Em cable attaches to lever)

My adjuster wheel was rusted also, needed replaced. Was so much fun to remove that rear disc when I was not able to adjust down the Em pads!!

You could detach the cable from the Em lever, then push on the EM brake to see if the cable is free internally for a start on pin pointing your problem.

Good Luck, let us know what you find!

Threads a bit old but wondering why the park brake does that? Mine Don't work at all forward but the minute you try to move backwards it locks up instantly. Trying to get an idea of what it may be before I tear into it. I'm going to try and adjust them. Just worried when I do, by the time I get it adjusted to work in a forward motion, it will bind up when reversing. Well see
