tire size comparison HELP!

2002 F150 Lariat ext cab 4x4 5.4 engine.

Went from stock to 285/70/17 buckshots

Been looking at the Wrangler Authority at Walmart.

They have a 245/75/17. What will the difference be on these tires? What are the pros/cons of going from the 285/70/17 to the 245/75/17?

The numbers confuse me. Also, what about the authorities? Not an offroader, but like the looks and price. 20 miles a day round trip for work and pull a 22 ft bay boat.

Thanks!

I'd stick with the size you have. Those 245's will be narrower and shorter. The first number is the tire's width (in millimeters) and the second is the aspect ratio or relationship of the tire's height to it's width.

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference
285/70-17____ 7.9" _____16.4"__ 32.7"_____ 102.8"
245/75-17____ 7.2" _____15.7"__ 31.5"_____ 98.9"

You're looking at 1.2" difference in tire height from one size to the other.
