Tire weight/revs per mile question...

Will a larger tires reduction in revolutions per mile make up for your loss in MPG's due to the added un-sprung weight?

Anyone......

Ummm, nope. Just thinking about what you said should have answered the question for you...how would additional weight make up for fuel mileage? Being unsprung is almost moot here, because you have to keep them rolling.

Regardless of reason, and regardless if I misspoke or not, larger (taller) tires will reduce fuel mileage unless you compensate with a gear ratio change.

Yea thats pretty much a myth. Also think about the added load during acceleration and added drag while cruising. Of course the heavier the foot you have the worse it will be. Even if you got 2-3% increase in mileage, how long do you think it would take to pay off $2 in wheels and rims?
