ABS System Locked

While braking in a rain storm my 1999 F-150 4x4 slid and the ABS system engaged. The next day I noticed the ABS dash light was still on and the brakes seemed to be fighting each other. When I apply the brakes they pulsate at times and there is a noise like a spring being stretched. Took it to a mechanic and he checked all the sensors all were ok..the fluid is good he thinks there may be a valve stuck in the ABS control box and it needs to be re-pressured. He cant fix it and recomends taking it to a dealer. Problem is dealer cant fit me in for 4 days but they say it should be ok to drive the truck. Any ideas what I can do in the meantime? The dash light no longer stays on all the time so it's not a wiring problem.
