Offset vs Backspacing question

I have tried to search for an answer but haven't gotten very far. I was looking at some wheels that are 20x10 with 0 offset and 5.5" backspacing. I'm just curious how that will sit and how far they will stick out of the fender. I'm just not getting it in my head as to how 0 offset is affected by a 5.5 backspacing.

IF you can find a rim with those dimensions they will stick out 2.5 inches further than a OEM 17 or 18 inch rim. If you have OEM 20's, I am not sure the exact rim width and backspace on those but I would guess it will be at least 1.5" or more.

Backspacing and offset are basically two ways of looking at the same thing...bs is easier to understand..the lower the number the more it will stick out.

Dog'em is right on..

Thanks guys. I have aftermarket 20s right now and they are at the limit of acceptability for me. My truck is not lifted or lowered but it is leveled. I need to figure out what the backspacing is on the wheels I have and go from there I guess.

I may just wait a bit longer and go with 22s. I don't do a lot of towing but I do haul things in the bed often enough. That is what kept me from getting 22s to begin with. I'm just not too sure I want to deal with a 45 series tire and it's affect on ride quality.

That is an impossible wheel.

A 20x10 with 5.5” of backspacing has +12.7mm of offset, not 0.

A 20x10 with 0 offset will have 5” of backspacing.

Those wheels will stick out a MILE!

They'll stick out similar to a 9" wide wheel with a -12mm offset.

20x10s with a +12.7mm offset would have a 6" backspacing.

20x10s with 5.5" of backspacing hava a 0 offset.

agreed.

to answer your question, these will stick out far past the fender. I have a 9" rim with 5.7" of BS and they sitck out a good 3/4" or so.

I think I'm just going to pick up some factory 20s. I have some aftermarket 20s that are chrome. Chrome is just a major pain to keep clean and corrosion seems to love chrome. There is also the hub centric vs lug centric issues that cause (minor in my case) vibrations that OEM hub centric wheels don't have.

I may eventually get something aftermarket again but I don't know. I guess I'm getting old and prefer a smoother ride and easier maintenance. I turned 42 on Friday.

Some of the Pro Comp wheels are hub centric, but I know what you mean..I'm starting to think the same way about aftremarket.

Well, I scored a deal on OEM 20s with tires (about 12k left on them) for $650. That is with the sensors still in them. I will be picking them up tomorrow after work.

Wrong wrong and wrong.

Math doesn't lie. If you want to prove your point show your work. Or don't you know how?

I already have and don't intend to show it again. If you want to see the work go back and look at my posts in other threads.

Other than that you could try the simple calculators online which don't require you to do anything. I'm not going to sit here and argue back and forth. Obviously you know you're right and I know I'm right so lets just leave it at that.....
