TireRack says "They Wont Fit"...wrong?
[/IMG]Gonna put 285/75R17 AT's. Is the backspacing reqt different from year to year? That truck in the pic has the wheels I want but I dont know what year it is. Looks like an 04 maybe...I have an 07 FX4 with a 17x8 aftermarket wheel with 4.5" of BS. I also run 285-75-17 Toyo MT's with Bilstein 5100's shocks all around. They level the truck. I have no issues with them at all.
4.5'' backspacing is not "required" on your truck....
I think that one with 25 offset must be a typo because it should be 5.5'' backspacing.
Your stock rims, assuming you have 17/18's are 7.5'' with 5.5'' backspacing just to give you an idea of where you are starting.
Backspacing and Offset are two different ways of saying the same thing.......the lower the number backspacing the more it will stick out

So far nobodys math adds up. Some of you say an 8" wheel with 0 offset will have a backspace of 4" (8/2=4", assuming its hubcentric). While the chart states an 8" wheel with a 0 offset has a backspace of 4.5" (how is that answer derived????). If TireRack uses that chart, then yes the wheels shouldnt fit my truck. If the chart is wrong, then they will fit my truck?
AND, according to American Racing's website, only the 17x8 25mm offset will fit my truck.
I really have no clue what to believe right now LOL.
TireRack emailed me back saying "They dont make the wheel in your bolt pattern" as the answer to "why wont they fit".
Hmm guess I'll just go with thedeffernt 17x8, 25mm offset wheel to be safe.

I should have been on this a bunch sooner guys, sorry. We are slammed right (the spring rush) now and I have been trying to keep up!
Our fitment guys are admittedly are a bit conservative when determining fitments. A 0mm offset on an 8.5" or 9" wheel is quite a bit more aggressive than stock, and depending on tire size could rub unless at least a 2" lift is put on the front. We would certainly like to air on the side of caution in some cases. "IT WON'T FIT" is certainly not a blanket answer and there are cases/circumstances where we don't list a fitment, but it will in fact work if the necc. mods have been made.
If in doubt call ME and I'll be happy to take the time with you to research it - that's why I am here.

Also, understand that I bet a lot of their customers have wanted to return wheels and tires because they barely touched a piece of plastic. They have to be conservative. Like I've said before "fits" means different things to different people.
