How to Ship Tires and Wheels

hey guys i have been trying to sell my old wheels and tires locally for awhile now but noone has bought them. i was only trying locally to avoid shipping costs. so my question is what would be the cheapest way to ship tires if i sold them on ebay or something. i've checked ups and fedex's sites for a quote and shipping on fedex would be $284.00 and it was cheaper than ups. that's just rediculous for shipping. and i've heard of grayhound and stuff but i would rather not. so any suggestions?

I feel your pain. I'm trying to sell my 20" FOOSE wheels with same issue. No local bites and shipping is gonna be $150 to most places. And that's just wheels. With wheels and tires you might look into a truck freight option - put em on a pallet and ship that way. Just a thought.

ha yeah i've had some people contact me because of my craigslist ads but it seems most of them don't even read the ad and end up just asking what they came off of or if they will fit some other vehicle. if it was less than $200 i would do it. i called ups and asked about freight and i think either i said something wrong or the woman entered it wrong but the shipping would be like $1084.00 or something. lol i literally said wow while i was on the phone.

i think i'm just going to have them unmounted and sell them separately. lol it'll make the shipping barable

ups freight is one of the most expensive ways to ship freight. try r&l or roadway. i know you could get a really good rate if you signed up at mybluegrace, but i doubt you want to do that.

If you have the ability to one of the two..a loading dock at both pick-up and drop off or a forklift at both you will drop the price dramatically.

It also helps if you can ship from retail to retail location rather than residential. I just bought a set of Roush wheels from a guy in Detroit and shipping was about $90 - that's on FedEx Ground from business to business location.

yeah i checked out r&l and it was still pretty high. i've got a business to ship from and im pretty sure the guy that was interested in them owns a car dealership so that might would have worked. but when i was checking with fedex and ups i realized that i didn't put in the dimensions of the wheels and tires so there quotes were just on the weight. with the dimensions it was 3 hundred something so i just called it quits. my girlfriends parents own an auto shop so they can dismount them for free then i can ship them for a lot cheaper.

i ve shipped/ have had shipped to me 2 sets of 20's in the past. one was across country other was half way. I think i used Fedex, an it was about $120 for both sets , from what i remember.

Then a set of 33's half way across country via fedex again for $140.

Posted my 35's for sale last month, and meet someone semi-local, they sold within a week.

If you really dont want to deal with shipping, your gunna have to wait it out for someone local to come along.

yeah just the tires or just the wheels shipping would be doable but each of my 35's and 18's weight right at 100lbs and that's where it hurts the shipping.

haha yep im sure eventually someone will buy them locally, ive just been getting annoyed with all the people that contact me on craigslist and ask "will they fit on a 93 chevy" or "will they fit on a bronco" i spent like 20 minutes on the phone with the guy that had the bronco then finally i asked what he wanted to put them on and he said a bronco. haha i was like wtf.

Best bet is too look into throwing them on a pallet, and having them freight shipped as mentioned above. As for local sale, if the price is right they will sell. what are you asking for them / how much tread is left / hows the rim condition ?

the wheels are in pretty good condition except one of them has some really small pitting spots in a crease on it. the tires are pretty warn except one of them that i replaced when i had a blowout. they probably have 10k miles left on them and one of them is basically new. i had ads on craigslist and was only asking like 450-500 for them and at one point i even listed them for 400 just because i want to get rid of them. funny though i put them on ebay but took the listing down and some guy sent me a message wanting to buy them for like $650 but then i would only get like $300 of that because of the dang shipping. lol

And you guys complain about OUR ship rates being high! Then you go and find out what it really costs!

If anyone ever needs packaging material for mounted wheels and tires, please let me know....
