e brake cable

e brake cable

anyone ever have trouble with the cable comming off the e brake when releasing it?

not sure what you mean by "trouble"... perhaps you could include a detail or two???

If you are referring to the cable sticking and the brakes not releasing... then yes, that is fairly common. If you get under your truck you can trace where the cable goes in and out of the protective tubing. At each point you see squirt some WD40 in there and it will help loosen it up.

If you are referring to something else... well... you should have said so...

the cable disconnecting is the trouble.



and no, i havent head of any complaints. sticking, though, yes.

If you are talking about the cables coming off at the rear wheels, your problem may be that your brake shoes are not releasing all the way. I have rear disc brakes and had the same thing happen. The hook that the cable attaches to is made up of two pieces that pivot in the center to activate the e brake. Over time it seizes up and eventually wont allow the springs in the ebrake to release all the way. When that happens the cables will slide off. I have to disassemble everything and grease this part at least every two years or else it seizes solid and I use the ebrake everyday.
