Please help with size recommendations

Hello All,

I have found this forum more than helpful, and would like some input from you guys.

I have a 2010 XLT SCREW 4x4 5.4L with 3.55 gears
Stock 275/65/18 Goodyear SRAs

I have just ordered a 1.5 in AS

I would like to put on the BFGs AT KOs in 305/65/18 but am worried they will be to much for my gears I really like the way they fill the wheel well and width. I have read that some on here have had issues with it not holding OD and losing a lot of performance and MPGs (I am prepared to lose a little MPG but not too much). One member even reccomended I go 285/65/18, but I want a little more height added than those give. That is why I want the 305/65/18 I looked at the 275/70/18 as well.

The specs say that the 275/70/18 are 57 lbs each, 285/65/18 are 60 lbs each, and the 305/65/18 are 65 lbs each. Now to me those weights don't seem like they would make that much difference from each other. The stockers are 40 lbs each. Can those of you that run these BFGS and other similar tires chime in and let me know the good and bad.

I plan on having the dealership re-calibrate for the new size whatever I end up with but don't have an interest in getting a tuner. Please let me know what you guys think and recommend.

Thanks in advance

There many factors when choosing tires, there are some really smart tire guys on here so you have come to the right spot. You have to consider LT vs P rated tires. This alone can account for a lot of tire weight. Huge debate on F150 online to which is "better". I think it comes down to the picking the tire that best suits your type of use/need. So if you don't tow or load the box with heavy items then you might consider a P series tire. Those BFG's are all LT's from C to E. Any of those sizes will look great but are very heavy. I like the 275, 285-70-18's personally. I don't like 65 series tires on trucks, I like the look of a thick sidewall, just personal taste. Good luck and post some pics once you mount them.

The 305/65-18 BFG's would be a great choice.

I have a set of the BFG's on my truck. They came with it when I bought it. Personally, I think they look too big and am trying to sell them to go down a size or two. My truck has an add a leaf in the rear and a 2 inch leveling kit in the front. I don't notice any problems holding overdrive, get 15 or 16mpg, and they ride great. They are the E load rated tires. I think that's the only way you can get the 305/65/18.
