Clearance issue

This past summer I put 285/70 R17's on my stock 17" rims.

No problems there, they look good

Heres the problem, we started getting snow around here so I went & bought a new set of chains for the new size tire.

But with the larger tires on, I only have about 1" of clearance between the side wall ot the tire & my shock on the rearend.

With chains on, they just barely rub the dust boot on the shock.

Luckily I havent had to use them yet, but its only a matter of time til I do.

I talked to the tire shop & they mentioned getting a set of "offset rims"

I've seen them on other trucks, but I don't want my tires to stick out that much.

Are there any different sized off sets you can get ??

Can I get a set that only set me out 1" or am I stuck with 3-4"'s of off set??

Or I can buy a set of smaller tires for the winter months..

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks Lee

They are only rubbing the dust boot on the shocks? Personally, I'd cut the dust boots off. Most people agree they do more harm than good by trapping mud, dirt and moisture and promoting rust.

Just get a set of wheel spacers. You can get those to move it by an inch. You can get them on ebay pretty cheap.

I wouldn't try wheel spacers. They usually create more problems than they solve (fitment, vibration, etc.).

Yeah wheel spacers, are pretty Iffy in my book.

I havent had to chain up yet, but if I do I'll just let it rub hell out of the dust boot.

A set of rear shocks is still cheaper, than any of the fixes presented to me so far.

Tire chains around here are for emergency only, if the roads are to bad I'm smart enough not to drive them, Plus Cal Trans shuts the HWY's down if the snows falling faster than they can plow it.

Thanks Lee
