Airless tires

I'm sure many of you have seen this, but I thought it was worth a post.

Michelin Twheel:

Like it or hate it, with the right tread, I could see these being very useful off-road (or anywhere else)...assuming they could handle the beating without warping or permanent damage

Looks pretty cool. I couldn't watch the video on my phone so I did a little searching and found this: http://www.michelin.com/corporate/ac...ue=4&actu=true

it looks like an awesome idea. I'm an eagle scout so I'm always preparing myself for flat tires. I keep a DC powered impact wrench and a big Jack in my truck just in case. This might solve this problem. From the looks of things, hopefully we'll be pulling "twheelies" in no time. Lol

I can't see these working too well if you ever drive in mud or snow. either would load up the spokes and your balance would be gone.

I saw an online article about this a year or two ago. Never seems to have taken off.

Interesting that they have been working on them since 95 and still do not expect to have a working high speed version for 10-15 years. Tells me them have some big problems to overcome.

These will probly never go into full production. The ride on them is absolutely horrible due to alternating between little support, and full vertical support. Might be usefull for low speed vehicles, or off road use, but will never see highways.

That is what they said in the vid, and that is on top of the 14 years they have already spent.
