Question Do I need a brake upgrade?

I'm sure the answer is in here somewhere, but I've spent a ton of time searching and just want to ask the question specific to my truck. I drive a 2002 FX4 SuperCrew. I have the stock braking system but with ThermoQuiet pads. I have had my brake work done through Brake Check. Anyway, I have oversized wheels and tires, 20x10 Motto Metal wheels and 33" Nitto Tires. I've gone rounds with pads and whatnot, but on my last set of replacements, they said they would no longer be able to replace my pads under warranty due to the excessive wear caused by having the larger wheels and tires. So now currently, my brakes are beginning to squeal every once in a while when I brake. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough for me to take it in. I did and he said plenty of life left on the pads and rotors, just glazing caused by overheating. Again due to the wheels and tires. He said if I wanted these symptoms to stop, the only option is upgrading my braking system. Sorry for the length, but any feedback and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am surprised they are getting that hot with your setup. How are your driving habits, very aggressive? Being that the truck is designed to tow/haul those brakes are suited to stop more than just the truck. I know the larger wheels and tires do cause your brakes to work harder, but your not that far away from stock. Unless permanent damage has been done I dont think you should have to upgrade your breaks. If you decide to do so, there are a lot of options out there and many members are using them, I am sure they could give you some reviews.

MDHawkin,

Thanks for the reply. I drive moderately aggressive I'd say. I'm not gonna lie, I don't exactly stop well in advance and I like to drive fast. I'm just not sure what to do next with the squeaking I have now. The Brake Check guys said there was no safety issue just a little glazing causing the noise. Thanks for your help.

That's HS in my opinion. Driving style bieng "spirited" or not, the pads should not heat up that bad. I run 33's and my brakes are cool (normal) temps, even towing crap they don't noticeably heat up. Something aint adding up here, the oversized wheel thing is a cop out to me. Try braking sooner and see if that actually does make that much of a difference.

Ok thanks for the input. If it continues, would you recommend going somewhere else or is there something else I should be looking at?

I think BLUE2004x4 and I are on the same page, he said the same thing I did, but was a little more blunt about it . Yea if I were you, I would go see someone else for a second opinion.

Haha. Ok I will. I really appreciate your help. I'll see who else does brakes around here and give them a call.

Exactly, it just goes to show they sound like jackasses who know (maybe) how to drain oil, thats it. If they don't know, say so don't assume, remember to assume is to make an "*** (out of) u (and) me. Guys running 37's driving like they autocross don't have issues, why are you? I'd take it to another shop and eat a bit of a loss for no more headaches. Hopefully.- Good luck.

Take it by Cambridge Auto out by USAA and have Steve take a look at it. He'll at least give you a correct and straight answer.

Thanks for the help guys. I thought it was a bit of a cop out myself. I thought that was unique to dealerships, blaming everything on aftermarket stuff! Labnerd, I'll check that place out. Do you need to make an appointment or can I just stop by? Thanks.
