Rotor play = brake noise?

Greetings all,

Big time help needed here!

I usually take care of all my vehicle maintenance needs, but due to the arrival of our first child and a house remodel I am past my elbows in work.

So, a month or so ago I took my truck in for new brakes and state insp. Since I got it back there has been a persistent scraping noise and a creaking sound as well. Mostly noticeable less than 20 mph and coming to a stop. Def. not engine noise and seems to be coming from the front end, where they replaced the brakes and resurfaced the rotors.

I took it back and they say nothing is wrong, it is a 10 yo truck and it is going to make noise...I call BS.

I am taking the tires off today and I notice there is approx. 1/4-1/2 inch of play in the rotors with the calipers assembled, only the tires taken off, if this acceptable? I am doing this by grabbing the rotor at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and wiggling it back and forth, it is VERY easily to do and requires no effort to break it loose.

Is this acceptable for rotor play or could this be my issue?

Thanks in advance!

oh, its a 2000 4.6L 4x4 ORP extended cab F-150, 85,000 on the clock

Disregard!

All is well. Just a TON of rust build up which took forever to grind off. Road tested it and everything seems to be quiet and working correctly.

glad you got it fixed.

BTW... the wheel is what holds the rotor to the hub... so of course the rotor will be loose once you take the wheel off.
