ABS Antilock Brakes every time I stop!
ABS Antilock Brakes every time I stop!
I have a 2000 F-150 4X4 4.6 V8
For the past few weeks nearly every time I stop just before the truck comes to a halt the front Antilock brake kicks in. It does not have to be a sudden stop and happens even if I have only moved a few feet like when moving ahead in traffic stopped at a stop sign.
THe truck seems to stop fine and the brake shoes and at least one rotor are only a few months old.
Do I have anything to worry about? What might be causing this?
Thanks for any help,
Barham

Thanks Matthew,
The ABS light checks out when I turn the key but is not on and does not come on while driving. The check engine light is eternally on thanks to "Failure to maintain vacuum in fuel system" code which I have found no repair for and I just fool the computer once a year for inspection. In the past if there was a second code, that light would flash and then I get it checked. I will try to stop by Autozone and get it checked again to make sure there is not an ABS code. I have never taken to close a look at the sensors before, so I havent pulled the wheel(s) to try to analyze this problem. It is only front ABS.
Thanks again, Barham

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the sensor in the rear end. I went with my mechanic as he did the road test with scanner plugged in. it took a few blocks to tell which sensor was bad.
