08 expy oem 18" tire size help
Hi All,
My TPMS lit up today and found out that one of the tires had its sidewall crack. Since all are almost bald/bad anyway, i was planning on replacing them tomorrow. Question is I would like to know what's the biggest tire combo that would work. Currently, I have the 18" 7-spoke chrome-plated stockers wrapped in 255/70/18 (32.06") and was checking out the following sizes:
- 265/70/18 (32.61")
- 275/65/18 (32.07")
- 275/70/18 (33.16")
- 285/60/18 (31.46")
- 285/65/18 (32.59")
Ideally, I would love to get the 285/65/18, but not sure if it will rub. My alternative is 285/60/18 (terra grapplers which i got quoted for $1080 inc. mount/balance/valvestems/warranty/freerotation), but was wondering if it might look somewhat small.
I'm also considering temporarily using my 05 F150 (oem) wheels wrapped in 305/55/20. Will this fit on an 08 expy?
Thanks!!!

I would not go any lower than 45 for day to day driving. And if towing, bump them up to 50 to 55.
How far have you driven since tires were replaced? Another problem may be that the sensors were only made to handle a max pressure of 50. You may need to get sensors made for a load range E tire.

It is not detecting too high a pressure, it is rated depending upon they OE tires on it. The sensors on my 07 were rated to 50 psi and the OE tires on it were p series with a max of 35. Also available were LR C tires with a max of 50. Not sure if the Expy sensors are rated the same. Also a LR E sensor would be set to turn on the light at 46psi, as compared to the P series or LR C which would turn it on at about 28.

do you have the system in instrument cluster or is it ( the tpms) in the console? the one i have is in the counsel and when you put the tires in a different spot on the truck you have the recalibrate it to the tires new location. but thats all done thru the on board computer just have to reset it!

Thanks for the response guys. I think I'll keep the psi around 45-50.
I'm really thinking the sensors were specific to the OE tires - it can only detect so much of a pressure, although I really hope that none is damaged. When I purchased the tires, I actually had one test-fitted (to make sure no rubbing) on the tire that had the crack/slit on the sidewall, which I assume to have caused the TPMS to go off in the first place. I was watching the whole time from demounting to mounting/balancing and the tech was careful. When the tech finally placed the wheel on the vehicle, he asked me to start it and that's when I noticed that the indicator lamp and console message were still on. So, using this logic, it's possible that the other tires may have caused the TPMS to go off.
Anyway, I've driven about 10mi w/ the new tires. I've tried resetting the message, but that only rids of the console message; the indicator lamp is still on. I guess I'll bring it down to Ford and see what they can do about it.
