285/40/20 on the front?

Is there a max that is recommended for the front of my truck? 2003 XLT Screww 4x4. I want to put 285/40/20's on there. Is that too wide a tire or is that still within limits? With those tires on there will be VERY limited 4x4 if any.

Any thoughts

The width will be just fine, however if you stay at factory 4x4 height I think they may be a little too short looking. I think it will leave you with a lot of open wheel well. Maybe that's the look you are going for.....

Well Im just trying to match up the size of the tire that is on the rear. When I bought the Harley edition rims they came with tires 285/50/20 on the rear and 275/45/20 on the front. I would like to run the same size all the way around for obvious reasons (4x4) and thought that the 285's would be a better fit. Thanks for the info.

Did you have a typo at first? Did you mean 285/50/20 perhaps?

Must have. A set of 285/40-20's would look crazy on a 4x4 unless it was slammed.
