im asuming its a 2002 ford f150 4x4? if so you can crank the torsion bars and fit i think up to 33's with a little trimming to lower valance, i did some searching when i was looking into this.

Yes, the wheels will be too wide for a 285/70.

You can use those tires with 285/75-16(33x11.50) or 305/70-16(33x12.50) tires. However, they will not fit without a lift on your 4x2. If you add a 3 inch body lift you can fit 33's by trimming a little plastic off the front bumper's lower valance. Personally, I'd also add a set of Daystar coilspring spacers to level the truck. THis will put you at the same height as a stock 4x4 with the torsion bars cranked up.
If you do not want to lift your truck at all you need to go down to a 16x8 inch wheel. I'd suggest a 265/75-16 (32x10.50) tire in that case.
