Need help with sizes

So I have been looking around for a new set of tires. The only problem is I dont know how big of size I can stuff in the wells. I have searched but every truck is a little different so nothing has really helped. I have a 2003 Supercrew Lariet FX4. I also have 16" Helo Maxx rims too. What is the biggest size I can stuff without having to modify anything. I am stock right now. Also what tires do you recommend. I was looking at the Nitto terra's but I hear a lot of bad things about them not lasting long but I get a vibe from most of those people who review them are kinda...well retarded. Thanks for any help.

285's stock, 305's mild trimming and maybe cranking the t-bars a bit, and I have been running terra grapplers for over two years now and really love these tires.

I'd go with 305/70-16's (33x12.50). I've read very few negative comments on the Terra Grapplers. THe BFG AT KO, Toyo AT, Mickey Thompson ATZ, Pro Comp Xtreme AT and **** Cepek FC II would be great choices.
