I have Toyo Open Country A/T's and they've yet to let me down in the mud and have no road noise whatsoever. Perfect balance in my opinion. I don't bog my truck anyways so their knobiness and grip is plenty. They're not amazing in the snow, but I think that's partly because I went with a wide tire. I highly recommend these tires! I got all 4 installed for under $1000 Canadian.

If you are wanting to mud, I would stay away from A/T's. The BFG KM2 will pull great in the mud and give you a pretty good ride on the road, they are however expensive.

What size tire are you looking to get?

RIght. No AT is gonna perform well in the mud. A quality radial MT like the BFG MT KM, Toyo MT, Mickey Thompson MTZ, **** Cepek Mud Country or Pro Comp Xtreme MT would be your best bet.

Typically AT's clog up and you're stuck in slop. However Goodyear has those new all terrains at WalMart that are more like Mud terrains. My buddy got those on his truck. They are awesome. Not sure how the treadwear is. They look a lot like Toyo Mud Terrains. However they did clog up in thick mud and he got stuck. But he only has a 2wd Ranger Edge.

best off/on road for mudding...

Toyo Open Country MTs ride extremely quiet on paved surfaces for a MT. They do very well off road. It's my choice...

I like my Toyo MTs. They are not too noisy on the road and they perform well off the road. Plus, they look great on our trucks...

My 33x12.5x18s were right at $300 each from rimzoneonline.com.
