Grooved Front Rotors

Had the front brakes done about 20k ago. The rotors have developed a deep groove at the outer edge of the rotors. It appears on the outside face only. The left is much deeper than the right.

The calipers were changed with the brake pads. They used Raybestos calipers. Any ideas what could be wrong? My hunch is that the calipers are sticking or not applying even pressure to the pads. The place that did the brake job contests that there is nothing wrong. I do get a grinding feeling in the pedal when braking.

Any thoughts guys?

Regards!

The pads, any pads, rarely engage the entire firepath surface. Your pads are likely a bit smaller, thus creating a small ridge of untouched metal around the outside of the rotor. If they are grooved under the pad they may be mi-alligned or picked up something harder than the iron that grooved it. If they are otherwise OK I would not worry about it.

Yes, the groove is under the pad. It is pretty deep...if I had to judge it it about a 1/16" deep X 1/8" wide. If it continues at this rate it would wear through the rotor by the end of the pad life. It is already so deep that I cannot have the rotor turned to remove.

Thank you for your reply!
