Question Tire Pressure Sensor

I have a 2007 F-150 FX4. How can I tell if I have these tire pressure sensors or not? My manual seems to be no help and I will upgrade to larger tires down the road and don't need any surprises. I'm led to believe not all 2007's have these things.

You have an 07, you have the sensors. They were mandated for the 07 up models.

Unhappy Tps

So when you upgrade to new tires and wheels do you just live with the light or do you break the bank for stinking sensors and bands? Or maybe buy 17" wheels then modify the old 18" to fit? Really, what's a guy to do?

If you are replacing the wheels, then the cheapest thing to do (other than live with the light), is buy new bands (they are not reusable) and move the sensors from the old wheels to the new.

They are reusable if you get the OEM bands from FORD. i have a set of 17" bands I am selling for $75.00 set. they are 65.00 each from FORD. they look like big hose clamps. You need them and a piece of 3M tape for the sensor. They are also usually placed opposite the valve stem.

let me ask a question here, for those of us, 07+ Ford owners who rotate their own tires, what do you do when you rotate the tires as the sensors I have been old will show a tire missing when rotated and the sensors not reset.

what do those do who rotate their own tires? live with the light, go to the dealer, this I doubt, tire shop, not too likely, or use a tool to reset the sensor.

some years ago a coupe of salesmen came by our office and were showing some hand held electronic tools to reset the sensors but they were $500-600 per each, but this was about the time that it was announced that in 07 all vehicles would have the sensors, at that time we passed on the need as the none of the fleet had the sensors.

all the 04+ fords we have in the family are 06 models, and we are going to buy several (special order) 09 or possibly 010 models depending when we place the order andwhen build out is for the 09 models

since we do almost all of our own maintenance in the family farm shop, we will be rotating the tires ourselves, especially after my last episode where we could not get the rims of without a hughe impact wrench.

what are you guys doing?

thanks

I've never had an issue with rotation on our Expy.

There's nothing special to rotating tires on my 07. I think it's only vehicles that have different tire pressure requirements from front to back that have issues.

That is correct. Most of the 07's, except for maybe the 8200gvw trucks, have the same recommendation all the way around, so moving them is not an issue. On those that did have different pressure recommendations, you would have received a sensor reset tool.

The only rotational problem is putting the sensors on the rim. Then they may have to be rotated until they receiver picks them up. But that means taking it off the rim and moving it, remount the tire, ect. etc.

No rotation problems here either.
