Wheel and tire size?
Wheel and tire size?
I have a 06 Supercrew 4x4 with a 2.5" leveling kit. I bought the truck in Nov. and it has some 22" weld wheels on it. I just don't like the look of those wheels and tires on a 4x4. They would look awesome on a 2wd not 4wd, but that is just my opinion. Now my question is this.
What would be a good back spacing and offset for a set of rims, I am going with 18 or 17's, which ever i can get a good deal on. Now with that being said what is a good size tire to go with my set up? Either the 17s or 18s. I am looking for some opinion on what type of all terain tires and what type of more aggressive tires you guys like. Something though that ain't way too out of a good price range (like 400 a tire). I am new to the whole truck thing, so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
Also anyone looking for some 22" Weld Slingblades, let me know. I will be getting rid of them when I get new wheels.
Thanks

Welcome to the site!
Tires for 17" rims and 18" rims shouldn't run much over 340 a piece... (The tires for 17" rims are about 50 bucks cheaper per tire than for 18" rims) www.4wheelparts.com has some good deals right now on rims and tires. I might would recommend the Mickey Thompson Classic Lock Rims or Classic II rims.
As far as backspacing, you'd probly be good to go with 4.5" to 5.5". I wouldn't suggest much over 5" though. And for the offset, it just depends on what kinda look for going for - deep dish, or flat (like stock rims).
For tires, since you have a level kit, the biggest tire you can fit on an aftermarket would probly be 315/70/17 which is ~ 34x1250R17.
BF Goodrich All Terrain KOs have really good all terrain performance as well as great mileage on the tires - some guys report getting 70K mi out of a set. Also, Nitto makes the Terra Grappler, which looks like a beefy street tire, but performs very well over most terrains (not very puncture/tear resistant tho - depending on where/if you offroad). ProComp has their All Terrain, (I can personally speak for these, my brother's tahoe has them). They have pretty good on-road handling, and excellent offroad handling, but aren't much good for thick mud or slop - which is the case with every all terrain tire (because the lugs on the tire fill up with mud)
If you're looking for mud terrains, BFG KM2 are pretty beefy. I hear they perform really good off-road and on-road. Toyo MTs are popular - but a ton of people have them, which may speak for their quality as well...
Hope that helps! Be sure to post pictures when you do it!
P.S. Just FYI when you're shopping for rims the bolt pattern for our era F150s is 6 on 135. And the smallest rim you can fit is a 17", otherwise it will hit the brake caliper and won't fit.

Actually a 315/70-17 is closer to a 35x12.50 tire and the only way to fit those with only a leveling kit is to use the oem wheels or one almost identical. Personally I'd suggest an 18x9 inch wheel with 5 to 6 inches of backspacing and a set of 305/60-18 (33x12.50) or 325/60-18 (33x13.00) tire. Good choices would be the BFG AT KO, Nitto Terra Grappler, Toyo AT, Pro COmp Xtreme AT, Mickety Thompson ATZ or **** Cepek FC II.

Looking at these for my '09 Scab. Have stock 255/70 17's. Offset and back spacing is what I'm having a problem with. Here are the differnt sizes I'm looking at.
Size: 17 x 8.5
Bolt Circle: 6x135
Offset: +6
Backside Setting: 5.00
Size: 17 x 8.5
Bolt Circle: 6x135
Offset: +15
Backside Setting: 5 3/8
Size: 18 x 9
Bolt Circle: 6x135
Offset: -12
Backside Setting: 4.50
Size: 18 x 9
Bolt Circle: 6x135
Offset: 0
Backside Setting: 5.00
Plan on a 2" leveling kit. Thinking of either 285/70 17's or 275/70 18's. Can someone help me understand better the way the offset and back setting will make the stance look wider. The 2 with the 5 in. back space are the ones I think I should be considering, but just don't know for sure.
YOur oem wheels are 7.5 inches wide with 5.5 inches of bs to give you an idea. So, a 9 inch wide wheel with 5 inches of bs will stick out 2 inches farther, a 9 with 4.5 inches bs will stick out 2.5 inches farther, an 8.5 iwht 5 inches of bs will stick out 1.5 inches farther. Do you have a 4x4 or 4x2?
