wheel question

hey guys i'm currently running 285/65/18s and i'm looking at buying a set of the xd monsters in a 18x9. i'm have no knowledge of the backspacing and offset when it comes to wheels. I spoke to a guy at 4 wheel parts and he told me a 6.18 (i guess offset) would be close to a stock wheel. Is this true? I would like to keep the wheel close to stock and don't want the wheel to set out too far. Thanks. also i'll be putting on a 2 in leveling kit when i purchase the wheels.

truck info. 2004 fx4 supercrew

That is the backspacing, not offset. The oem wheels are 17 or 18x7.5 with 5.5 inches of backspacing. The OEM 20's are 20x8.5 with 6.5 inches of bs. So, that wheel will stick out about an inch farther than the oem wheel. If you have a 4x4, that combo will fit easily. If you have a 4x2, they will fit, but you may or may not have to do some minor trimming.

I've been getting an education in the offsetting and backspacing relationships. According to how it figures, take the wheel width and divide by 2. That gives the center measurement. On a 7.5, that's 3.75. Subtract the backspacing from it, and you have 1.75 inches. Multiply that by 25.4 and you have the offset in millimeters. 44.45. 1 inch is 25.4mm. If the 6.18 he quoted is in inches, that's a 42.67mm offset. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
