Scared to make a mistake
Scared to make a mistake
I know I have written a couple of times before, I just want to make sure I make the right choice.
So one more time I am looking for your help.
I have a 2005 SCREW 4.6, 4x4 with 3:73's. I just ordered the Hell Bent 2.5 Leveling kit. I need to keep my stock 17 inch wheels becase of cost. Many people say I can go 315/70/17. I just want to know if this sounds right?
Also has anyone had a hard time trying to find someone to mount these on this wheel.
Also trying to decide between Firestone Destination M/t or BFG M/T.
Thanks again.

Yes, you can fit a 315/70-17 (35x12.50) using the oem wheels, but just barely. They will rub the control arms at full steering lock. You need to look at the big picture also. The only way to fit these tires is to use the OEM wheels are an aftermarket wheel that is almost identical (like a 17x8 with 5.5 inches of bs) which is very rare. Are you going to keep the oem wheel forever or do you think you will go with aftermarket wheels later? If you think you will replace the wheels stick with a slightly smaller size like a 305/65-17 (33x12.50), 295/70-17 (34x12.00) or 285/70-17 (33x11.50).
I'm in the same boat, and Wendell gives sound advice.
I have stock 17in rims running factory 255s on my 07 XLT. I put a 2.5in leveling kit on, which was easy enough. No troubles. Alignment was affected only a fraction. With my Moose Catcher in the front, true lift from the kit measured out to a tad over 2 inches.
Regarding tire size - Having heard from other members, I'm going with a 285/70R17 tire. It will not rub, will not stick out past the fenders - minimizing spray and rock throwing, will have minimal effect on mileage and speedometer readings, will increase off-road capability without a lift kit or sacrificing power, and a spare will still fit underneath the bed.
265s still seem too small for the truck, and 305 are just too wide.
I'll let you know how it turns out.
