Rotor replacement help...

Guys I've been on the internet all day looking and am more confused now thatn when I started. I need to replace my rotors on my 2005 5.4 Lariat SCREW and I need and good quality rotor that is fairly inexpensive. I tow a bassboat so the stress on the rotor would obviously be enhanced vs a daily driver. Can someone point me in the right direction without me breaking the bank. Also I have 22" wheels. thanks

I take it you don't live on a island right? Make it simple, drive to a parts store, Carquest, Advance, Pep boys or NAPA and ask for a good rotor. You're towing a bass boat which is weight, but not beyond the limits of any rotor. Seriously, I know Carquest stuff and it's never failed. Don't let someone tell you that you need Formula 1 braking for a daily driven pickup towing a relatively light boat. The only difference really you'll notice between parts store brakes and placebo pads is dust. Carquest "blue" line of brakes hardly dust at all gettin up on you're 22's making them all crap looking like stocks or some high end ones. I have had the semi-metallic and recently ceramics which are nice. I never have gotten dust on my rims, barely a film. Get a good ceramic or semi-metallic with a warranty and you're good to go.

i replaced mine with the none name brand from advance auto. i currently have about 45,000 miles on them, i paid about $85. and used ceramic metal pads. the name brand[bendix, etc.] will cost you about $250 apiece. i tow a 21 ft open fish boat. you are supposed to replace the spindle nut which is a dealer only item.

You wont have any issues with either CarQuest Blues, Raybestos ceramics, or the Hawk Ceramics. I personally like Hawk pads and Power slot rotors but they are little more expensive. A good rotor from an auto parts store and Raybestos ceramics will give you great results.

Don't know if you have a 4x4 or a 4x2, but they are different. The 4x2 has the bearings built in and they cost more. Got mine at a local parts store. They are Raybestos and have done fine for 40,000 miles.

Not sure if your an ebay fan but, I have purchased a set of front rotors and pads from R1Concepts for a 91 caprice. Pretty good price for C/S & Drilled rotors w/ pads. No issues with a lot of stop and go traffic thru Phoenix for about 30 miles/5 days a week.
I've tried a set of Hawk Pads & Power slot Rotors and weren't impressed with them, especially for the price. Lots of dust on my 20's, despite Hawk's claim, and sqeaking (definitely very irritating) when they got too dirty or didn't get rinsed well when you washed. They did help out a little, stopping the bigger rims.

Recommendation: CarboTech Engineering 877-899-5024 or 704-481-8500. With regards to rotors, I run Brembo OEM replacement rotors that are cryogenically treated making them almost as hard as stainless steel. For street use, slotted/drilled rotors are just “cheese-graters” for the brake pads IMHO, because unless you are involved in true racing conditions, the brake linings do not produce the gases which slotted/drilled rotors are designed to relive. In some cases, brake testing indicated reduce brake efficiency in street-based operations using slotted/drilled rotors when equal comparisons were made. The staff at carbo can speak to you as well regarding those options, but I am very satisfied with the performance & wear of these products.

Thanks guys, my trailer does have brakes also so I think I should be OK with some from Auto Zone. I do have the 4x2 and it figures that mine would cost more for it..lol I'm gonna get them done this weekend so I'll let you know how I end up. I want to have the ceramis pads put on again but want to ensure their not too hard for the rotors. I may loot at the Brembos as well.

OK I ordered the Wagner Heavy Duty Rotors and spindle nuts. I probably get to them next weekend but I saved about $60 online versus going to Local auto parts store. I'll keep you posted on ow they turn out.

I've been using the Duralast rotors from Autozone with Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads.
Some have complained about excess dust from the PFC pads, but I haven't seen it.

I'm using the PFC's on the front of the wife's Windstar, all around on the daughter's Honda Prelude and the front of my F-150. I like them and have had no issues.

I would have put them on my 91 F-250, but $80 + was a bit much to spend on a truck that will be gone by august.....Sold, or donated to charity for scrap.
