Opinions: MTZ vs Xtreme M/T

I'm looking at the Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ and the Pro Comp Xtreme M/T (size will be 265/70/17). At the offroad shop I'm dealing with, the guy is pushing the Xtreme M/T's over the MTZ saying that the MTZ doesn't have a mileage rating and he says the Xtreme M/T's are rated for 40,000 mi and have a 4 year warranty. I've seen reviews that rate the MTZ slightly higher than the Xtreme M/T's. I guess my concern is that I will be forking out alot of money for tires and I want them to last. Any opinions on which tire would be the better choice? These tires are going on my daily driver so lots of on-road use.

They guy also told me that since I have the 4.6L that I should not go to a 285 cause I will lose alot of power and braking power.

I would also consider the BFG MT's as well, I currently have the AT KO's and have great luck with them.

I ran the MTZ in a 35" on my 2002 F150 for a good 20,000 miles and they wore well and rode nice. I now run the Extreme M/T in 35" because 4WP was running a special on Pro Comps when I purchased my lift, wheels, and tires. IMO I like them both but I am betting that the Extreme M/T will last longer since I have 18,000 miles on them already and hardly any wear is showing.

Also if noise is a concern, they are about the same sound but the Mickey was just a little noisier.

As far as braking goes, I had stock brakes on that 02 4.6L I had and never had an issue with braking but of course a bigger tire will mean more weight to stop and it will not stop the same.

For me it is really a toss up for which one is better but I must say I get more people saying "nice looking tires" with these Pro Comps.

Also, both tires are manufactured by Cooper Tire, so quality is similar. Both are excellent choices and performance is pretty even. The choice for me would come down to price and looks.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. I do like the warranty that comes with the Xtreme M/T's, also they look more aggresive than the MTZ's.

Now what about the size, will I see a significant power loss with a 285 vs 265? I would really like to put on a set of 285's but my truck doesn't have alot of power now and I would hate to reduce its power much more. I would rather not change the gears in the rear end either. Maybe I've already answered my question of which size to go with.

THey are only and inch taller. I doubt you notice much difference unless you do a lot of heavy towing/hauling.

Thanks Wandell. I do some heavy towing (well heavy for the 4.6L) so I guess I will stick with the stock size. It will limit my tire selection a bit. I can't get the PC Xtreme AT's or the BFG KM2's in a 265.
