2006 xlt supercab needs new tires

I have the original factory 235/75R17's on my truck and have now relocated back to the cold snowy state of Minnesota. I have 36,000 miles on these tires and are in my opinion terrible on snow and ice. I am looking for a new tire and have some that I like the looks of, Yokohama Geolander A/T's, Bridgestone Revos, and a Firestone destination. I like the look of the aggresiveness but also am on the highway for most of my miles. I have seen posts with people putting larger tires on their trucks and I like what I have seen. How large can I go with everything being stock. What effect does a larger tire have on the speedometer? Any and all help would be appreciated.

If your truck is a 4x4 you can go up to a 285x70x17 which is close to 33 inches tall. They may throw your speed off roughly 3 to 5 mph. Also check out the BFG, Toyo and Nitto all terrain's which are all great for everyday use. Also Welcome to the site!

I put goodyear wrangler silent Armour on my 03 and they are great in the snow. There a little louder than the stock rts that came on it but are a ton better in the snow. I dont think they are going to be a high mileage tire though.

yes it is 4X4, I would love to go to the 285/70R17's. I just don't want to have to make any modifications right now after the expense of the tires. Sounds like the Nitto's get a lot of praise, they also look like the aggressive look I am after. Thanks for your input.

I got the kumho KL78 in a 285/70/17 and they ride great. Like you, I wanted a more aggressive tire but like 85% of the time I am on Interstate somewhere. These tires fit my truck with no rubbing at all with no level. They also did not throw my speed off except for about 1mph.

I recommend going with the firestones. The destination is a great tire. I got the M/T's on mine and did alot of research prior to buying. Both the A/T and M/T had very high ratings compared to BFG/GY and so on. Look around but I bet you would be pleased with the frestones. Also got to a 285/70/17. i think you will be ok.

the firestone destinations are great in the snow, my boss has them on the plow truck i use. i personally have cooper discover ATR on my f150 and they are really good in the snow, quiet on the highway, and have an agressive look

I have Cooper ATR's on my 04 STX ... 265/70/17's .... would agree they are good in snow however, after only 30,000 and regular rotation they are nearly out of tread and they seem to getting harder and making a lot of noise ... probably better tires out there ..

I went with 265/70-17 Nitto Terra Grapplers. I now have about 300 miles on them and what a difference. I love them, they look aggressive and are still smooth and quiet. Here in MN we do get snow and they are great. Would have liked to have gone to the 285's but didn't want to risk rubbing. I am really happy with my decision.

It sounds like you would have been happier going with the 33's. Next time you should, they will fit no prob w/o a lvl kit.
