Question Tire Advice

Need new tires for my '05 XL 4WD (P255/70/R17). I have Firestone Destination A/T's with probably about 35,000 on them, and I'm estimating they'll take another 5,000 before they go. I am thinking about going with some General Grabber AT 2's. Any thoughts? The only General's I've ever had were the Ameritracs that came on it new, and I was not impressed with them. I shelled out the cash for Wranglers on an old Ranger, and swore I'd never do that again.

Was also curious if I would be able to bump up to 265's on my stock wheels...

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Yes you can fit 265's on stock wheels.

As far as tires go, this question has been answered numerous times before. It sounds like your looking for another A/T tire. So your top choices will be in no particular order

BFG KO's
Nitto Terra Grapplers
Toyo Open Country's
Bridgestone Revo's
Firestone Destination
General Grabbers

plus many others but these are typical of what most use around here. I think its more important on how you plan to use a particular tire and where you use it is whats going to decide whats best for you. Are you primarily a highwat driver? Off road? Mud? Sand? Snow? Ice? etc... Little more background would probably make your decision easier.

Thanks for the advice. Driving primarily on the pavement but yes, looking for an All-Terrain tire. Leaning heavily toward the Grabbers...

On a stock 4x4 you can clear a 285x70x17 which is close to 33 inches tall on the stock 7 1/2" wheel. I've got BFG and Toyo AT's and I find the BFG's ride a little smoother, also I can't wear them out 30k miles and only 1/3 worn.

Follow up to the 285 post...if I go that tall, do I have to worry about readjusting my speedometer/odometer?

+1 on the BFG AT KO's. The longevity of the tire is unmatched, in my opinion...
