Hey guys, Im bout to buy a new set of tires... next week or so... and just happened to be looking at my spare, which came from factory so i assume its like a 30-31" tire and 18" rim. So i was thinking I would buy a cheapo 20" rim and put one of my 305/55/20 tires that i will be taking off when i buy my new tires and putting it on the cheapo for a spare.

First off.... would a 305/55/20 tire fit in the spare location?

Second... was looking on ebay... would my 305/55/20 fit this rim, and this rim fit my 05'? 20" cheapo
says its a 20x8.5 6x135 bolt pattern, says for 06-07, but im pretty sure thats what the 05's have as well. by the way for the rim (if you dont wanna look) its $135 shipped unless someone out there got something cheaper?

go to the tire manufacturer's website, and get the EXACT measurement in inches of the tire size you will be purchasing. crawl under your truck, and measure the distance between the two frame rails, and the hitch/differential to see if it will fit.

 

I think you're biggest restriction will be the location of your tailpipe or pipes. That's the case with my Magnaflow system. Remember most aftermarket exhaust systems need at least 1/2 inch clearance between the spare and the tail pipe. More room is better.

Something to consider, put a 275/70-18 on your stock spare wheel and you'll have a tire that matches the OD of your current 20's. And you can surely pick up a moderately used tire for short money.

Personally, I'd just leave what you've got as is. Your stock spare is only an inch smaller in OD. When that day comes, if it ever does, where you need to use the spare, just limit the distance traveled and don't worry about it. In 30 years of driving, I've needed my spare once.

 

yeah, i dont think I ever used a spare on my other vehicles.... Never thought to consider the tail pipes... humm, good point. Oh well i'll just leave it for now untill that day comes. Thanks
