Spare tire questions..

Hello all,

I am running 285/75/R16's on my F150 right now, and I do not have a spare.

What I DO have is the stock spare, which is a 17" wheel, and a spare 285/75/R16 tire (no wheel..)

I have two questions:

1. Regarding the 17" stock spare wheel, what is the "proper" sized tire to put on this wheel to match it to the 285/75/R16's...

2. If I were to look for a 16" wheel for my spare 16" tire, what is the narrowest wheel width I can safely put a 285mm wide tire onto??

Thanks in Advance

a 285/70/17 is about as close as you're gonna get diameter wise but it will still be slightly off. 285/75/16= 32.83 inches 285/70/17=32.71 inches. Nothing to get real alarmed about but the tires will spin at different rates, even if ever so slightly.

Personally I'd get a wheel as close to stock as possible and have all matching tires. It will probably cost about the same anyway for a new wheel or a new tire. The stock wheels are like 16x7''. Can probably find a cheap used stock wheel on ebay, craigs list, or local paper. Try to stick to 16x7 if possible, it's a common enough size you shouldnt have trouble finding it.
