tire sizing question

well it's time for a new set of tires and i am looking for some thing a little bigger. i currently have 265/70/17 (stock) and am looking to put 33's under my 2000 f150 with t bar crank while looking for tires i found 305/70/17 which i believe are 33's. my question is basically what do the numbers mean, ?/ width?/rim size?

thanks for the help i am a tire idiot

My understanding is that in the size 305/70/17 for example that the first number (305) is the width of the tread in millimeters, the second number is the percentage that the sidewall is in conjunction to the tread width (70% of 305mm is the height of the sidewall, in this case 213.5mm) and the last number is of course the rim diameter.

305/70/17 is pretty much a 33.8x12x17" tire

Hope this helps!

A 305/70-17 is basicallly a 34x12.50 tire. You can fit them by using the oem wheels.
