Rear Brakes Shuddering/Vibration
My rear brakes are shuddering/shaking/vibrating when I apply them, and badly above 60 mph. I first had the rotors turned but it still did it. This weekend I installed new rotors and new pads, but it's still shuddering. Today I bled all four calipers using new fluid, but still doing it. Bled them some more... still shaking. I also pulled fuses from both fuse compartments that were labeled ABS, but that didn't help. Anyone ever had this problem before? 2003 F150 Supercrew 5.4 L.
It's the front rotors, even though it really feels like the rear. I've had this problem on both my '97 and my '01 F-150's. I about pulled my hair out running it down on my '97 until I figured it out, then when I bought the '01 used it had the problem and I put R1Concepts rotors up front and it instantly fixed it (didn't even touch the rear).
Have those front rotors turned or replace them and you'll be surprised.

A drum brake is a brake in which the friction is caused by a set of shoes or pads that press against the inner surface of a rotating drum. The drum is connected to a rotating wheel.

How do you know they are the rear?? They could indeed be the front like Queso said. Is the steering wheel shaking at all?
After driving for 35 years I have a pretty good feel for knowing when the steering wheel is shaking. The vibration is definitely in the back. The vibration was so bad it broke the welds on the hangers that support my tailpipes. It is a little better after bleeding and I'll probably try that another time or two. The only thing left to replace is the calipers.
So the shuddering and vibration is better after bleeding? OK, let us know how much those calipers help after you change them. I wish I was your parts dealer.
Ok... I'll Re-check those front rotors. I did replace the front pads and had the front rotors turned less than a year ago and all was well up until now. would still swear on a stack of bibles that it's in the rear, but I'm asking y'all, so I'll check the fronts again. Thanks for your answers. BTW... got my exhaust redone yesterday so I need to find that vibration pretty quick. Uh... Anyone need a pair of freshly-turned rear rotors? After installing the new ones I found the old ones were still above the minimum spec of 12 milimeters, ~13. The local Ford dealership told me they were too thin (never trust a dealership).
