wheel/tire setup (suggestions??)

Hi guys,

I wanted to ask for your opinions on wheel and tire setups for my truck (05 FX4 Red w/ black OE flares and nerf bars). I am wanting to stay with an AT tire like the BFG, Nitto TG AT, or Toyo OC At, and would like to go to something that will not comprimise my HP and MPG's a ton. I just ordered a 2.5" AS leveling kit, and I'm looking to stay with a size 18 wheel. I don't like the 20 inch plus sizes and I like the way the stock rims fit the truck. I don't want a setup that hangs outside of the fenders too far. A little is ok. Do any of you have suggestions? I'm not sure if black or chrome wheels will look better. I'm thinking black since the rest of my truck is black. I do like the Mazzi Hulk wheels, but I think that will push my wheel way past the fenders. I also like the look of the XD monsters, but I'm not sure how well they will look on my truck. Any input is appreciated.

im not a big guru on wheels but...
I like the stock wheels on the new trucks (04+) so id say take your stock wheels and get them powder coated and they would look really nice.

also some tires for you to check out.
BFG TA KO
TOYO AT
Nitto Terra Grapplers
Mickey Thompson ATZ
Procomp AT
Procomp Extreme AT

I agree with 4.2trimbles tire recommendations. If you keep the oem wheels, I'd go with a 285/65-18 (33x11.50) or 305/60-18 (33x12.50) tire. If you want an aftermarket wheel, I'd go with a 18x9 inch wheel with 5 to 6 inches of bs and a 305/60-18 or 325/60-18 (33x13.00) tire.

Wandell,

Thanks for your help! You seem to be the go to guy for this kind of stuff. Thanks again, and I'll let you know if I have other questions. Have you guys seen what a powdercoated OEM FX4 wheel looks like? I'm assuming you would powdercoat the cap as well. Let me know.

A couple members have done it. Try to search or start a thread asking for pics.

I found a couple of pictures. They do look great on a black truck, but will they look good on a red truck?
