20" or 18" Wheels? FAB anyone?
20" or 18" Wheels? FAB anyone?
Hi All,
I'll be buying a new truck in November, and me being the kind of person i am, i look at every option and find which will be the best one for my needs. Does anyone have any feedback or preference on the 18" or 20" stock wheels? I will be hauling a slide in camper and a trailer for work. I'm guessing the 20" will handle a lot better but i am wondering how the tires are for heavy loads.

No the 20" would not be better. 17" would be better as there is a larger selection of LR D and E tires. Most of the 18s and 0 are P series tires. Also I would think again about getting an F150 for a slide in camper and a trailer. You are definitely in super duty territory for that.
I custom built my slide in camper (light 8' half overhead) so the truck can handle it and the trailer will be used with work, not with the camper, so it's still in F150 country.
If your are going to rely only on what you can order from the factory, then go with the 18" option that is for a LT load range C tire. That is the best you are going to get load wise from the factory. If you are going to get aftermarket tires, then my suggestion for 17" rims still stands. Then immediately get new tires as what comes from the factory will not stand up that well to the load. They are on P series (passenger car) tires.
I'd get a set of 285x65x18 BFG or Nitto AT's that are LT rated and throw them on the factory 18's from the get-go! I agree with Kingfish saying not to run the "P" rated tires towing or hauling heavy loads. Just asking for trouble.
