Weird tire wear

I have beefy BFG All-Terrain K/O's and I noticed the middle of one of the tires is worn. Like all the siping is gone. Tire off truck I look down the tread and the middle is sunken in, like middle is not even touch, but I'm sure on the truck, it is. I keep 40 PSI in them, is this an alignment problem? I havent checked the others, but will tomorrow and will have picture. . .

Worn in the middle sounds like it's either over pressure (40 psi shouldn't do that) or too wide a tire for the rim width. What size tires/wheels are you running?

Yup, that's either overinflation or the rim is too narrow for the tire.

Besides the tire & rim sizes, what's your rotation schedule on the tires and how many miles ya got on em?

285/75/16 on the stock 16's my Expy came with.

They are roto-rebal'd every time they should be. But it hasnt been that many times cause they have just around 10k on them

I'd drop the air pressure to 35psi.

If it is only one of the 4 tires, and they are all at 40, it is not over inflation. That does sound like some weird wear. I wonder if for some reason the compound on that tire is softer in the middle.

If those are a LR C tire, 40 is where the should be. If a LR D or E, then even higher.

Load range D and they all show similar wear, just in the middle. 40 PSI

My guess is that it is the wheel width causing your problem. Those per the BFG site state to use on 7.5 to 9. Yours I believe are 7". Dropping down a bit on the pressure might help, but you will have to be careful of weight. Not sure what your GAWRs and GVWR is, but at 35, those tires are rated at about 1650lb each or about half their load carrying ability (3305lbs at 65). Too low and you have to start worrying about tire heat, blowouts, and tread separation.

From personal experience, 285/75-16's on stock 16x7 rims work just fine. I ran them on my 98 for a few years with 38 to 42 or so pounds with no funky wear. I'd say you've got something odd going on with that tire, if none of the others are an issue.
