Rim Width

What is the width of a 06 f150 17inch oem wheel? I ordered some bfg m/t 35x12.5-17 through a local shop and can swap them if necessary. The guy at the shop told me they would fit with some minor cutting of my fender wells which is fine but will the tires be to wide for my factory wheels? Thanks for the help

Rim width of the 17 and 18" OEM wheels is 7.5". See the tie manufacturers site on whether they are wide enough.

Most manufacturers recommend and 8 to 10 inch wide wheel for 12.50's. However, several members here and FTW have run them with no problems. Just don't run the air pressure to high for daily driving. I'd stay around 40 psi. As for fitment, they will rub the control arms slightly at full steering lock, but that's it (unless you get some with really aggressive sidewall lugs.)

I called MickeyThompson about mine and they said don't do it. So i told the shop to try it and see what happens. They said it fit fine. That was about 18K ago. Still not problems

BTW i would get a cut off tool and cut off that nub on the lower A arm. Then it won't rub at all.

Totally different set up between your 03 and his 06. Front suspensions are no where near the same.

You need to look at the big picture. What are you gonna ultimately do with the truck? Do you think you will lift it? If so, how much? Do you wanna run wider aftermarket wheels in the future?

i doubt i will ever lift it. But as for the truck it will be 50/50 on and off road. Sooner or later i would like to get some aftermarket wheels.

If you think you just want to go with some aftermarket wheels in the future, I'd drop down to a 305/65-17 (33x12.50) tire. Wheel width and backspacing are as important to fitment as tire size. To fit the 315/70-17 (35x12.50) on an aftermarket wheel (with only a leveling kit) you are gonna have to find a wheel that is almost identical to the oem wheel specs like a 17x8 with 5.5 inches of backspacing. That is extremely hard to do.
