Dan, I'd check out the BFG, Nitto, Toyo and Pro Comp all-terrains. All great tires for all around use. The 285's will be a little taller than the 255's and may throw your speedometer off about 1 to 2 mph. Most Ford dealer's can adjust for this but may run 75 to 100 buck's to have it done. Larger tires are the best way to improve a 4x4 truck's look's. Get 'em on and you'll love the way it look's.

 

Thanks, i'm wicked excited to get some larger tires and i'll look into all those brands you mentioned. I love my truck now as it is, but i just look at my tires and go ughhh lol. They just seem a bit to small.

 

So considering i have 255/70/17's on right my truck right now, if i end up getting the 285/70/17's, how much extra height would my truck have?

Honestly i really dont know much about tires, i always just replaced them with the same exact ones on all my other vehicles. But having this 4x4 F150 is a whole different story. I'd be pretty happy if those 285/70/17's not only looked bigger, but gave my truck some more height.

 

I have one more question guys. I am planning on buying some BFG AT's in the size i've been talking about (285/70/17). I am putting them on my stock 17" wheels, and cant afford to do anything else except the tires. My truck has 3.55 gears, so i'm just wondering if i'll be ok? I'd hate to lose a lot of power.

 

You are basically comparing a 30 inch tall tire to a 33 inch tall tire, so your truck will sit 1.5 inches taller. You should be fine with 3.55's and 33's.

 

You had said your tires were 255/70-17"s, but if those are the stock Michelin's, are you sure they aren't 255/65-17"s ?

The reason I ask, is this is what I have, and the Michelin website lists them at 30.1 inches tall. I'll be putting my BFG AT 285/70-17"s on next week. These are listed by BFG as being 32.8" tall. So, with my new tires being 2.7" taller, my truck will get an overall lift, of half of that.... So, 1.35". Of course I'm getting a 2" front leveling lift today. So, I'm looking at close to 1 1/2" in the back, and 3 1/2" in the front..... Which I think will be fine, as my truck is a 2wd anyway.
