Going from 18" Chrome OEM to 20" OEM

Hi, I currently am running the 18" Chrome OEM Wheels with 265/60R18 Stockers on my 2007 F-150 Crew 2WD. I found some new takeoffs that I want to switch them with. I Talked to a dealership on the phone who told me I would have to reprogram the computer (Apparently takes 1 hr of labor=$123), and then $60 to switch them. Is this programming necessary? The service adviser didn't even say a word about programming till I asked her if the speedo and everything would still read right. I am thinking about taking them to a NTB or something to swap em out to save some money on the switch, and if I really have to program, I might as well buy my own programmer.

Bottom line, what steps should I take and how much should I be paying? Also, how much are my Chrome 18's & tires with 5,000 miles on them worth? Thanks

If the overall height is different, then yes, it needs reprogramming. I would put the money in on a tuner if it was me. You can go to a tire site such as www.discounttire.com and compare tire sizes to see how much off it will be.

Thanks for the tip. At highway speeds, it's only going to be about 2.5 mph faster than the speedo reads. Is this worth $120 of programming? Unless there are long term negative effects (besides my odo being slightly off as well)...I plan to be taking a 800 mile trip after I get them, is this going to be alright?

Also, called around and found out a little more. One dealership said that after 7-8 miles of driving at highway speeds, the computer will correct itself. Can anyone verify this? Thanks.

$25 to switch the wheels right? I'm guessing you didn't change the programming?

I went from OEM chrome 18's to OEM 20's to 22's. I never had my computer reprogrammed. Everything seems fine. I only got $400 for my 18's with around 6k miles on them. Since you have an 07 maybe the TPMS has to be reset??

The re-programming is for the TPMS sensors in the wheels (since you have a '07 or newer truck). Otherwise, you'll get an idot light on the dash.

The sensors do not need to be reprogrammed they just need to be removed the the stock 18's and put into the 20's as I highly doubt the 20" take-offs he will be putting on will have sensors in them (almost every set of take-offs has the TPMS sensors removed).
