A full guide to StopTech/Centric rotors, from mild to wild

__________________________________________________ __________

As we all know, brakes are THE most important system in your truck. Without properly functioning brakes, you are putting yourself and other drivers on the road in danger, especially when hauling a load or a trailer. Stock brakes are good when new, but once they start to fade, braking performance is non existent.

Over the past year with ModBargains, I have done ALOT of research on brakes, doing my own testing along with product comparisons and a ton of reading.

This thread is meant to inform and teach you about the benefits and advantages to replacing and upgrading your brakes with StopTech brakes, exploring all rotor options from mild to wild.

-C-Tek Standard Brake Rotors
-Premium Brake Rotors
-Slotted Rotors
-Drilled Rotors
-Drilled and Slotted Rotors

When price is important and quality is essential. C-Tek rotors offer many of the benefits of an OEM part at a fraction of the cost. C-Tek rotors are the entry level Centric Parts rotors, perfect for an OEM replacement style rotor with a great price.

-Double disc ground finish
-OE metallurgy, fit and function
-Wide range of applications
-Highest quality and value

Centric Premium Rotors

Centric Premium rotors feature a double disc ground, taper free finish. Double disc grinding ensures parallelism, eliminates run out and provides near perfect disc thickness variation. Centric Premium rotors also feature 100% fully machine finishes including rotor hats, which provides better rotor balance and creates a cleaner, more finished looking component. O.E. specification center split core casting provides proper head transfer and thermal efficiency, resulting in superior braking power and safety.

-Premium E-Coating finish
-Double disc ground finish
-Fully machine finish including rotor hats
-OE fin designs
-100% inspected and mill balanced

Stoptech Slotted and (or) Drilled Rotors

The BEST bang for your buck!

When you needmore stopping power, StopTech's Slotted rotors are your #1 choice. One-piece direct replacement rotors fit stock calipers. Drilling or slotting helps wipe away the debris that forms between the pad and the disc, adds more bite, and can help the rear brakes to match the aesthetics of a front big brake kit. The rotor finish helps prevent glazing of the pads and improves wet and dry braking performance. Most StopTech rotors have a durable black coating on the non-swept areas of the rotor to prevent unsightly corrosion. Quality is assured as the rotors are manufactured to meet or exceed all OE specifications.

-Superior braking performance
-Black E-Coating
-Better braking bite
-Best heat and dissipation
-Maintains structural integrity and rigidity after drilling
-Most efficient bolt on performance brake upgrade available

I personally have been running StopTech Slotted rotors on my own truck and absolutely love them. For everything from daily driving, Los Angeles rush hour traffic to pulling a loaded trailer through the mountains. These are THE BEST BRAKES I've ever run, hands down.

If you have any questions please feel free to let me know,

Alon

I have a question.

I have heard negatives as well as positives regarding the slotted AND drilled rotors.
Many say that the slotted and drilled takes too much material out and the advantages of either the slots or the drilled holes is minimal when put together.

I personally would like to upgrade to the slotted and drilled set but comments by many regarding inefficiant heat dissapation and weakened structures makes me second guess.
Whats your take? would it be worth the price difference in the combo drilled/slotted as compared to say just a slotted or just drilled?

If i were to get just slotted or drilled what would be the optimal choice? the slotted or the drilled?

thanks

I've read about drilled rotors cracking. Have you ever seen this? I'm inclined to go with a slotted rotor when I replace mine.

There are benefits to slotted rotors and benefits to drilled rotors, obviously. With many rotors you see on ebay that are drilled and slotted, they were never meant to be modified like that and may be weakened due to improper drilling /slotting techniques.

Drilled rotors are good for relieving brake pad dust and cooling the rotors more efficiently. Slotted rotors are great for keeping a perfectly clean braking surface and removing any imperfections in the pads.

I am personally running just slotted rotors in the truck, and my boss is running just drilled stoptechs in his BMW. Either route you go, you will be very happy with the extra stopping.

YES! Cheap rotors can and will crack when they are drilled, as they were never meant to be drilled and do not have the structural integrity that better rotors have. The StopTech rotors are made to be drilled and will not have any issues with cracking.

Ok so i have aftermarket heavy 22s, and a big break kit is on my mind, but its aobut time to replace my brake pads, and my rotors have already been trued and turned once, due to heat buildup from my heavy wheels warping them.

So i would imagine the drilled rotors would benefit me more wouldnt they?
I mean efficient cooling is what i want.

Damn 2wd and thier pressed bearings....
any chance of a group buy on 2wd rotors :o

I'd suggest going with drilled and slotted since you are running the 22's. Keep the pads biting properly and keep the temps down.

Brake group buy is unlikely, but feel free to email me when you're ready to purchase and I'll see what I can do for you

Centric Posi-Quets...hands down.

They are made for trucks and SUV's, are low dust and do great when towing.

Ok, I'll bite. StopTech rotors are made to be drilled and wont have issues with cracking. How, please explain? Is this part of a written guarantee?

Now correct me if im wrong but from how I read it, it apparently states there is no warranty what so ever on them? Is that typical with brakes considering they could be considered "expendable items". Or is this different from other companies. Or I just read it wrong. Either way....

I am sorry I havent seen this thread in a few days, so let me get a few things straight here.

The stoptech rotors are high quality and made with materials that can be drilled. There is always a risk that a rotor can crack and there is no way we can guarantee that. If the rotors are installed wrong and the brakes are dragging on a 10 hour road trip and get red hot, then get drenched from a freak flood and then you hit a rock which happens to...... you get what I'm saying?

Ebay or cheap rotors are not made with such high quality materials, and the rotors they start with may be more porous metal or not up to spec once drilled.

I don't know why a disclaimer from one of the best braking companies out there is making you weary. It is to cover themselves in any extreme case, all companies have these.

Same thing with the brakes, they are quality parts, with a disclaimer to avoid lawsuits from misusers.

I am not sure which brakes that is referring to, as Stoptech is known for their big brake kits. There is no warranty on the brakes wearing out, but if there is a manufacturer defect or a problem early on we will make sure it gets taken care of.

The off street use is most likely talking about their big brake kits for race applications. Many autocross guys love the stoptech brakes and use them on their race cars. On some of these kits, the brakes must be warmed up in order to provide full braking performance, and on the street, they are not used in the same way.

Great find, yes...Applicable to these direct replacement rotors? not so much.

Thanks for all the interest so far with these rotors, I know I absolutely love mine that i've been running for months now, and I will not run anything else.

If there are any other questions feel free to let me know.

Thanks guys
