Bleeding the brakes

1999 F150, disc fronts, drum rears, ABS equipped.

Is the procedure outlined HERE valid for my vehicle?

I ask because the Haynes book seems to imply that for ABS brakes you have to do something else and have a scanner.

bleed them just like any other system. start at the passenger rear work your way from there.i use on of those cheap one man bleeders from autozone. of course dont let that master cylinder run dry or youll be there all day.

On a F150 don't be surprised if you have to bleed the system 3 or 4 times to get all the air out.

The ABS unit must be bled as well. You will see the bleeder valve on the unit itself.

The reference is pretty much it but I have bled a lot of brakes in my life and that explanation at the end about a "power hand bleeder" has me scratching my head. Is anyone else familiar with this? I use a "Mighty-Vac" hand vac. bleeder for a 1 man bleed which is very easy and effective but you open the bleeder valve and SUCK the fluid through from the master cylinder, NOT FORCE IT BACK UPSTREAM. That just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe it's my day to learn something new - but I think I'll continue to suck it through from the master cyl.- thank you very much!
