Question Any Real Reason to Use Bigger Rims???

Is there really any point to running a bigger rim??? I have a '08 SuperCrew XL with 17's I dont really like 20" rims and I've been looking at staying with a 17" rim or maybe an 18" but is there really any benefit to bigger rims?

I'm looking at some 33" A/Ts not really going to be doing any serious offroading just getting back into some job sites. but the truck does ALOT of Highway and city driving, so I'm still considering the handling aspect.

I know with 35's and up you have more sidewall flex with a smaller rim and more "bounce" when you hit bumps. and I know that on sports cars, running a rubber band around a 19" rim makes the car handle like its on rails but the ride quality suffers from jarring bumps.

so would 33's be ok on 17s??

just certain TIRE sizes aren't available for certain wheel sizes. if you lift you're truck to me it brings out the whole ratio.

if she's just a regular go getter, 17 or 18's work. my truck just looks stupid with anything smaller than 20's

IMO its just what people like.....There really is "real" reason to go with bigger rims.

I just went from stock 18's to some am 20's and whoo boy, what a difference. When they were sitting in the garage they looked huge and I was hesitant on even using them but I finally threw them on and can't believe how much more my truck looks like a truck. I say go w/20's!

it just depends on what you're into. do you want the meaty tire look? than go w/ a 17'' or an 18''. or do you prefer a slightly bigger wheel? a 20'' would probably be better. i wouldn't put anything bigger on a 4WD truck though, that's just my take on things.

Less sidewall=less flexing and roadwalking. Hence better control, der...

I dropped to a 16" rim and got a 33" tire, saved over 500 bucks total and now I have that meaty tire look.

Strickly personal preference, 17's or 18's with 33, 34 or 35 inch tires look great on a 4x4 out in the wood's or on a jobsite!

its all about personal preference. i like the look of a larger rim with a lower profile A/T tire. i dont go offroad at all, its just for looks. if you go offroad i wouldnt suggest a large rim. IMO i wouldnt go any smaller than 20's with 33's or 35's

I tried going OEM size wheels and couldnt get a balance. Ultra Thunders. Better go at least 1 size bigger or you may put a lot of money into dust collectors for the garage.

Tires for a 17" rim are usually a little cheaper than the equivilent size for a 20" rim. I run 35x12.50 tires on a 17" rim. I say rock the 17's.
