Backspacing question

So I'm looking into getting a set of 20x10 wheels for my 2000 F-250. The wheels that I like, the only backspacing info I can find on them says -12. So, what does that mean? I'm wanting the wheels to stick out *just* enough, not a ton, ya know?

-12 is gonna be the offset. I believe you want 4.5 inches of backspacing on the 99-04 SD's.

I'm not sure what backspacing that would work out to be. Maybe you can find a conversion chart. I believe the oem 99-04 SD wheels were 7 inches wide with 4.5 inches of bs, while the 05-07's had about 5 inches of bs.

Not sure, but one site is telling me that the -12 offset is a direct fit for a 2000 F-250 4x4 and they seem to have the best website (concerning fitment) so far.
