Which tires??

Hi,

I have a 2006 f-150 4x4, soon to be levelled and add-a-leafed, and I am looking for tires. I want to go slightly bigger than stock, so I have a few choices in mind. First is the BFG A/T's but in 305/65r18 I am looking at $1600 cdn installed. I phoned a few places now close to Minneapolis, and I found 275/70r18's in Mickey Thompson ATZ's for $1184 installed, or Nitto Terra Grappler's for $937 installed. I like that these tires will be close to the same height, but slightly narrower because I don't want any rubbing issues, and on stock rims I don't want the ballooned look. I need some advice on these tires, how good are they, how about wear, stuff like that. I know the reputation of the BFG's, but for that much price difference, if the others will be close then I will go with them. I don't plan on doing a whole bunch of offroading, but I do want a decent tire for it when I want to. Thanks for any advice.

I don't know much about the Mickey Thompsons, but the other two are great tires. For the price I would recommend the Terra Grapplers. My brother has them on his Tahoe and the look awesome and ride like stock. Where I'm from you see a lot of BFGs (and for good reason) so the Nittos really stand out. There is a black truck on this forum with the TGs that looks real good. Maybe the owner of that truck will chime in.

That does sound high even for BFG tires, but you can't go wrong with the Nitto's or Mickey's. Keep shopping.

Hi,

Thanks for the input, I phoned Kal Tire here and they want $1600 cdn for the Nitto Terra Grappler's. Seems like all tires here in Saskatchewan are high priced.

All three are great tires. But i perferr the BFG's. But the MT ATZ are great and look very nice. The Nittos are a good "street AT" but the BFG's will walk all over them offroad. The MT ATZ i havent had any expierence with offroad but a buddy has them on his 06 dodge and it gets him in and out of hunting camp nicely.

All three are great. The Key points in these tires are (for an AT)

1. BFG TA KO... Great Offroad Performance, Great Tread Life, fairly smooth ride, semi-loud on highway, Aggressive Tread Pattern

2. Nitto Terra Grapplers... Extremely Smooth Riding, Extremely Quite,Great Tread Life, Mild Offroad performance, Nice Tread Pattern

3. Mickey Thompson ATZ... Smooth Riding, Fairly Quite, Good Tread Life, Good Offroad performance, Unique Tread Pattern

Hope that helps
Cecil

I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers on my truck and love them. I don't know that I would go through real deep, thick mud with them but for general off-roading I think they are fine.
