What to do about the TPMS ?

Okay, so when I buy my tire / wheel sets, and the place mounts and balances them, what about the TPMS sensor ? I just won't have them ? Does this mean I'll have to look at an annoying warning light on my dash, for all the years I own my truck ?

Wheelsnext had a note that said > Your vehicle is equiped with a TPMS system. If you want "free" mounting and balancing of your tires and wheels, this requires a TPMS sensor package which is {like} $380 !!!

Will the sensors with my stock wheels work ? If so, I obviously need to order my tires and wheels seperately, so that they can be removed from my stock wheels, and added to the aftermarket ones, during the mounting and balancing.
Sounds like a pain in the ****, but then again, maybe I can save a few dollars by getting the best wheel price from one place, and the best tire price, from another.....

Your thoughts or advice please...

Thank you,
Fish

Do you know what kind of sensors are in your wheels/tires right now? (band sensor or valve sensor) And what size wheels are your stock one and what size are you going to?

Well ya' know.....

I don't even know for sure that my truck will have TPM sensors, let alone what type they are. (but Wheelsnext thought it did} It's a 4.6L 2wd, XLT. So maybe somebody can tell me / us.....

As for the stock tire size... I believe they are 235/75-17's (30.6 diam) and I think I'm going to 285/70-17's (32.6 diam)

Oh ok. Your truck most likely doesn't have any sensor at all. When i put my wheels and tires on i didn't have any sensors. I wouldn't worry about it.

If your truck is a 07 up, it has the sensors. You can remove them from the old wheels and put them on the new wheels with a new set of bands. Do a search. A lot of info already in the forum.

I agree. Most people just remove the oem sensors and install them on the aftermarket wheels. If you don't, you will have to live with the warning light.

I just put new summer wheels on (22's) and my TPMS light came on. I thought it was gonna be annoying and it would make a noise and stuff. Its hardly noticeable, a little light comes on the in the bottom corner of the dash and thats it. Big F'ing deal. Not worth spending the $380+ for the light to go off. It'll go off anyways when I put my OEM's back on for the winter. Just deal with it.

$380.00 is a robbery in progress! Do a search on this site, you will find lots of TPMS work arounds that are damn near free!
Heres what I did:

Well here's what I've decided......

Of course when I take my factory wheels off, I will keep the TPM sensors {in fact, I think we have enough storage space to keep the whole darn tire + wheels, along with the sensors. Then, maybe in 3 or 4 years, when I get new tires, I might go on and add them then.

I certainly want to take advantage of the free mounting and balancing, then just slap them straight on the truck when they get here. Heck, you gotta' know, "NOTHING" is really free anyway.... That's included in the price. So if I "don't" get them mounted and balanced, I'll still have paid for it......

My buddy said, put a 1/2" square of electrical tape right over the top of the tire pressure warning light. Fixed. :-)

Peace,
Fish

Fish,

If you need an extra set of TPMSs, I have a set for real cheap....

An extra set is kind of meaningless since you would have to have your vehicle reprogrammed to use them. Then if you want to go back to the original, you have to reprogram again. About $80 each time at the dealer, and they are the only ones that can do it.

Hmmm...

I remember one member said it took him about 30 minutes to get to the warning light, or plug wire for the light, and he just disconnected it. I might have my mechanic dig right down to it, then point at it for me, and tell me to, "pull that plug out". I wouldn't want to put "him" on the spot, for disabling a safety feature.

I don't need no stinking TPMS !

Peace,
Fish
