some crazy wheel ideas

ok so lets be honest 5x135 isn't exactly the most common wheel pattern. 5x135 is roughly a 5x5.3...So say one acquires a set of 5x5.5 and drills the holes out so it would go on our hubs. I know this seems like its a crazy idea, but i have an old chevy with wheels on it where someone has done this. Would it really be a problem? Sure it might not be the best idea, but I just don't like my wheel options

i thought someone tried this and there was too much to drill out and it cut into the hub hole. you could weld the holes back in then redrill but it might not be as strong!

good thought though let me know if it works!

a competent machine job can do a redrill quite easily.
keep in mind that the donor wheel needs to have the specified sizes and brake clearances you require.

and you dont drill out the existing five holes. that would put them out of round and cause you more headaches besides being an extreme hazard. try mounting a wheel a quarter of an inche off and go 70+ on the freeway....
you drill a second set of holes.
this is already done on most aftermarked wheels that have a hob/lug cover.
It may look disasterous on one with the lugs exposed.

it depends do you have enough room to add a 1/4" to. i rember now the guy was trying to fit hummer wheels on a F150! and it was a 04+ which means 6 lug which is totally different.

what im saying is there might now be enough room to make the hole a 1/4" bigger. take a look at this wheel see if you can tell.

this is a 16x8 5x5.5.

**** those wheels are so cheap and come in a 5x135 i would just buy them...but keep in mind all the holes would have to be drilled .25 over

The pice of the wheel isnt going to change the bolt patterns relation with the center hole! its gonna be the same on a from a 16-22" wheeli just used that as an exaple. and from the looks of it its seems like it would be alittle close. id wait for Wandell to explain he gets alittle more respect than i do!

.25 doesnt seem so bad but then agian who knows what kind of structual flaws this could cause especially when you put your truck though its paces offroad!

I wouldnt do it, but thats me, and ive been known for some off the wall redneck rigs!

well considering i have had my chevy upside down, jumped 4' in the air, and driven over trees, street signs, ect. I haven't noticed a difference in them being drilled. Wandell is going to say its a horrible idea...i already know that much. of course i do believe my math is off now that I think about it. It would need an extra .25 of RADIUS, thus meaning the hole will end up being .5 overall bigger. and that is definately a lot of metal. I didn't think that one all the way through, I thought I only need to enlarge the holes by a quarter inch, but a half inch is WAY to much

well just reading this you had me thinkin about it too, i have a set of 5x5.5's in my garage, but they are 15" so it really wouldnt work at all.

ohh well nice idea though! and FORD was absolutely stupid to get rid of the 5.5 IMHO.
