Definity/Cooper Tires

Well, I thought my search was over and I am completely content with my choice in BFG tires, but then I read the paper this morning. I have always been a FIRM believer in buying name brand tires, but Pep Boys is offering there ever popular buy 3 get 1 deal. I saw the Dakota A/T and M/T tires in 285/75/16 for 125 dollars! (A/T). Does anyone have any experience with these tires? Is the deal too good to be true? I saw pics online of both, and the tread looks strikingly close to that of the BFG. The A/T has 50k warranty and the M/T has a 40k one. The total for me would probably be under $500 for a set of 33'' tires. As opposed to the BFG tires, which I am looking at 185 per tire, and close to $1000. Any thoughts or comments guys?

I just got a price today of $680 out the door with tax and warranty on four tires, minus the $133 mail in rebate, brings it down to about $550 for a set of 4 285/75/16 Dakota M/T tires. I am really thinking about doing it, because I am getting 4 M/T tires for less than half the price of 4 A/T tires. I also called my local J Williams about the BFG's, they told me "We cannot install those tires (285's) on your truck, they will not fit, we have a book that tells us that". I hung up...after he told me that the price of the bfg 275/70/16was $216 a tire. If you do an image search in google under "dakota m/t" you can see the tire. Personally, I don't think it looks half bad, and it is made by cooper...which also makes **** cepek and mickey thompson (Wandell, correct me if I am wrong). Idk, I figure if people on the board are running cooper stt's, maybe I shouuld give their dakota counterpart a shot.

My old F150 had some Cooper Discoverer AT's on it and they were great tires. Coopers are pretty cheap and are a great value.

Well, you guys can stop laughing at me now for even considering pep boys ...I found out the definity's only had a two ply sidewall, and various ppl complained that pep boys warranty is trash blah blah blah. That was enough for me. Two local 4x4 shops here gave me different quotes. One quoted me at $922 out the door for 285 BFG A/T's, another said they could order the BFG's, but said they had pro comp A/T's in stock for $880 out the door, and the M/T's in stock for $940 out the door. I am not a big fan of pro comp tires (no offense to you guys that have them) but I just think that the A/T tire they offer is sub-par, it looks like the off brand Dayton A/T's my sister has on her Expy. Both shops had one thing in common, they both laughed at what Jack Williams told me. Anyway, the one shop told me that they had a set of used Cepek mud countries that have more than 3/4 tread left in my size that a customer recently had changed out for a larger set. They said he wanted to go bigger, but the tires look brand new. They said I could have them for $600 out the door. So, I think tomorrow after work I will just go take a look at them, and if I don't like them I will ask how much the BFG's would run me through them. I figure I would rather spend an xtra 300 dollars on a quality tire, than dump 600 on a tire that I will have to replace after I blow a sidewall.
