brake problems

last week my FR brake started to stick, my truck pulled really hard to the right, so i turned the rotors monday after work and put new pads on it, they had the usual smell to them the first couple days, then today coming home from work my truck stared to bog down and pull HARD to the left now and i have a really bad vibration now, literaly some change bounced out of my cup holders onto the floor. Thats only 30 mph, so i finally got home and as soon as i opened the door it smelled like my truck was on fire and smoke was coming from the FL tire. any body know what the problem is? i hope it not big because iam trying to save for college, insurance is due next wed. and i just made my truck payment tues on top of 60 a week for fuel so iam short on money needless to say. i have a haynes manual and i work at a gm dealership so i have acces to alot of tools, i have tomorrow off so i was gonna go in and work on it if i can grab a lift in time. the shop foreman is a service writer on sat. for the quicklube and he'll be there from 9-1 so if there not busy he could probly help me out a bit

also forgot-its a 1997 f150, 4.2l, 4x4, rear drum, 5spd if that helps

Sounds like a hung up caliper...... I would replace it, but if funds are that tight, you may be able to free it up and lube the sliders......

Yup, X2 ^ I'd see if the calipers pistons move ok and clean and lube the sliders with anti-seize. Seems funny how it goes from side to side but it doesn't sound good so check quick.

FR caliper sticking

Hi
I've been having similar problems on my 97 2x4. I replaced the caliper and the problem still existed. Front right sticking. What I did notice was when I went to bleed the FR caliper I used a vacumm pump and was unable to bleed the caliper, I had to start the engine and get someone to really push the brake hard to get it to bleed. I checked for visible kinks or crushed brake lines from the master to the RF caliper and all looked good. I released the bleeder and got a squirt of oil indicating a presurized caliper with no brake pedal presure. I then undid the flair nut at the flexible line and noticed a good flow of oil - the problem appears to be in the flex line. I replaced the flex line and all is back to normal. There are no valves or restrictors in the flex hose so the only possible reason is constriction. I cut the flex hose apart and found where one of the frame clamps was attached to the flex hose was where the problem was - completely blocked both ways unless under extreme pressure. I suspect the problem occurs when the over clamped support begins with time to constrict the internal opening and also the build up of rust on the clamp the internal diameter is constricted to 0. This was a real pain in the *** problem, I now have a caliper I never needed in the first place. I just might replace the LF flex also to avoid future problems.

well i went into the dealership this morning hoping to finish up my headache rack and get my spotlights wired up but this problem came up. i replaced both flexlines and so far so good, except i noticed on one of the pistons on the drivers, its chipped and one on the pass is leaking a little fluid so monday iam just gonna replace both calipers since there only 45 bucks a piece. I was thinkg they were around 150 or so for some reason
