Larger rim sizes

Hey guys, I currently have 17's and want to upgrage to something larger. Will the overall height of the tire change? Or are the 18" tires just a lower profile?
If the tires are larger will this not affect my speedo accuracy? Sorry guys but I'm still not really clear on this. Does this change my MPG's? Plus I also tow a camper. I used to have a 5.0L mustang and changed the factory 3:55 and put in 4:11 in the rear. I would be doing 120 km/h on the highway and the speedo reading was buried at 180! If I make any changes to my truck I want to do them properly.
Thanks again guys,
Paul.

No it will not change the tire size. It will add more weight, that will add to your stopping distance when braking though. The tire's sidewall will be shorter with a larger wheel and might ride a little stiffer.

If you stick with the same size tire and go with a larger rim everything will be the same. If you are wanting a larger tire overall then you may have some speedo changes, and be able to tell a differance in the ride qaulity.
