Total Backspacing

When looking at certain wheel specifications, usually there will be a number listed for backspacing and sometimes there is also a number for total backspacing. Can someone let me know what the difference is? The specs I've seen always have a larger total backspacing number...my best guess is this is including the wheel lip flange in the measurement?

Thanks, Keeks

I have never noticed that. Does the same wheel have a spec for both backspacing and total backspacing, or is it just called 1 or the other?

Here is where I seen reference to total backspacing...it is from the Rancho parts sheet that lists the RS6589 4 inch suspension lift I've been looking to buy. Here is a snapshot of the info sheet stating 6.0 inches backspacing and 6.7 inches total backspacing:

The reference can be viewed in entirety here:

I may contact Racho for clarification, just thought I would check here first since there is a lot of knowledgeable wheel and tire enthusiasts on this forum.

Thanks everyone, Keeks
