18x8

(posted this in stock section by mistake so I moved it here)

My 2004 F150 has 18x8 aftermarket rims with 285/65/18 yokohomas, I have the 2.5" AS kit and I'd like to know the biggest tires that will fit on these rims. I can deal with a little rubbing / trimming, I e-mailed the wheel company and these are the specs they sent me: 18"x8". 5.75" backspacing and +35 offset.
I would like to run something like a 325/65/18, I'm looking for a 34"-35" tire with as much width as I can fit.

Thanks,

12" wide is as wide as you can go with a 8" wide wheel

If you have a 4x4 you can fit a 35x12.50-18

Wandell, thanks. yes it is a 4x4. I've ran 12.5" on 8" rims on all my jeeps so I knew they would fit on the wheels. I was just wondering about the backspace / offset. I'm assuming I could also fit the Fun countries in size 305/70/18 ?

Will they fit? Yes
Is it the best thing to do ? No

Will it work and will it work right are two diferant things. YOu may get some odd tire wear by doing so.

Maybe it's different with a full size truck, I come from the jeep world so I'm not sure. I have always run 12.5" tires on 8" wheels on the jeeps for various reasons, I have never had abnormal tire wear on any of them.
A few of the tire's I'm looking at have wheel recommendations of 8"-10" for the size tire we are talking about.

What problems have you had running a 12.5" tire on a 8" wheel?

Like I said I was more concerned with the wheel offset/backspacing but I welcome all input.

I personally have not had any issue however most tire manufactures suggest a minimum of a 8.5" wide wheel with a 12.5" wide tire and as a general rule your tire should be no more than 4" wider than your rim.

You swill most likley be fine and have no issues. And like your thinking BS is the most important issue of all. And from my research thus far a BS of 4.5 inches is what is need to run a large diameter tire. I am pretty certain that is what most guys running lifts have to run to clear things. I know that is what i had to go with on my truck.

Thanks, I may end up with something a little smaller. Trying to find a decent price on the bfg ko in 305/65/18.

I tow my boat and atv trailers so I dont want any issues, plus were thinking of selling our old class C and getting a lite weight (1000#) pop up truck camper.

Thanks again,

The 04-08 F-150's require more backspacing than our trucks. You cannot fit a 35x12.50 on a new F-150 using an 8 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing with only a leveling kit.
